Shanti Shea An (b. 1993) is an artist based on Gadigal Country/Sydney, Australia. Her practice explores how images are read, translated, and transformed through the process of painting. She works with source material drawn from mass media, art history, and personal photography, bringing together disparate visual languages to reflect on ambiguity, interruption, and the instability of meaning. In 2024, she completed her PhD at the ANU School of Art & Design. Her practice-led research examined how concepts of doubling and legibility shape our understanding of figurative painting, attending to the image of the book within art, the philosophy of the fold, and Derrida’s writing on the parergon.
