Gareth Owens’ paintings reflect his curiosity in exploring object, story, portraiture, the suburban landscape and block colour, inviting the viewer to play in a world of graphic potentiality. A self-taught artist, Gareth references imagery from his Irish upbringing and family heritage. With the recent birth of his son Nelson, Gareth has also moved in a direction of producing work that reflects how his son might see the world. Together they walk the streets of Mullumbimby, observing the neighborhood’s suburban houses, landscape and local residents. This has informed an intentional graphic sensibility that is a reflection of Gareth becoming a father. Gareth also runs Blue Boy Studio fine art framing from a workshop in Mullumbimby.
