Pretend This Is Your Heart by Charlotte Ghaie is a raw and deeply personal exploration of longing, motherhood, and family, while also examining universal themes such connection and loss. Ghaie’s process is intimate and tactile, often working without traditional tools to reveal dreamlike narratives and figures that emerge from memory and the subconscious. Blurred and fragmented like faded photos, her works reflect a ritualistic connection to her cultural heritage and the darker, often hidden aspects of self. The recurring motif of the mother yeti serves as a powerful avatar, challenging perceptions of the feminine body and its place in art history.
